Mark 14:30
“Jesus said to him, “Most certainly I tell you, that you today, even this night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.””
What does Mark 14:30 mean?
Jesus is speaking to Peter during their final meal together, and he's telling Peter something hard: before morning comes, Peter will claim three times that he doesn't even know Jesus. Peter had just insisted he'd never abandon Jesus, even if everyone else did, so this prediction must have felt like a gut punch. Jesus isn't saying this to punish Peter or shame him, but to prepare him for what's about to happen and, later, to help Peter understand that even his deepest failures don't define him or disqualify him from following Jesus. The detail about the rooster crowing twice makes this specific and real, not vague. When Peter later hears that rooster, it will break his heart and wake him up to his own weakness, but it will also become the beginning of his restoration. Jesus already knows Peter will stumble, and he tells him anyway because he loves him.
