What does Mark 11:28 mean?
The religious leaders in Jerusalem are confronting Jesus right after he's cleared the temple marketplace. They're not actually asking a genuine question, they're challenging his right to act so boldly without their approval or authorization. In that culture, authority came from official position, training under respected teachers, or appointment by those already in power, and Jesus had none of those credentials in their eyes. What makes this moment sharp is that Jesus had just disrupted their entire system, yet he wasn't ordained by their institutions or accountable to their hierarchy. Their question really means, "Who do you think you are?" It's the tension between institutional power and the kind of authority that comes from truth and purpose.
