Mark 1:40
“A leper came to him, begging him, kneeling down to him, and saying to him, “If you want to, you can make me clean.””
What does Mark 1:40 mean?
The man approaching Jesus was isolated by disease and religious law, cut off from community and worship. His kneeling and tentative "if you want to" show both desperation and respect, revealing he believed Jesus had the power to heal but wasn't sure whether Jesus would care enough to help someone considered unclean and cast out. This moment captures what many of us feel in our deepest struggles: the fear that healing might be possible, but maybe not for us, maybe not when we feel most broken or unworthy. Jesus's response, which comes next, shows that his willingness is exactly what the man needs to discover.
