What does Mark 1:24 mean?
A demon-possessed man shouts this at Jesus in the synagogue, and it's remarkable because even the forces of evil recognize Jesus for who he truly is, though they're terrified of what his presence means for them. The demon's fear isn't misplaced: Jesus has come to break the power of darkness and set people free, which is exactly why the demon is panicking. What's striking is that a tormented man, controlled by something destructive, can still perceive Jesus' holiness and authority when the crowd around him might still be uncertain. Sometimes people in the deepest pain or bondage see spiritual truth most clearly.
