What does Mark 1:17 mean?
When Jesus called his first disciples who were literally fishing for their livelihood, he was inviting them into something far bigger than casting nets into water. He wasn't asking them to abandon their skills but to redirect them, using the same patience, persistence, and practical knowledge they'd honed as fishermen to help draw people toward God's kingdom instead. The promise "I will make you" carries real weight here, because Jesus isn't just telling them to go evangelize on their own strength. He's saying he'll transform and equip them for this work over time.
