What does Malachi 2:7 mean?
In Malachi's time, priests were meant to be teachers and guides for God's people, preserving and sharing knowledge of God's law with those who came to them. The prophet is saying that a priest's real responsibility is to know Scripture deeply and live it faithfully, because people naturally look to them as trustworthy messengers of God's truth. When priests failed at this job (which is what Malachi was criticizing), they let down everyone who depended on them for spiritual guidance.
