What does Luke 9:52 mean?

Jesus and his disciples were heading toward Jerusalem, and he wanted to arrange lodging in a Samaritan village ahead of time. He sent messengers ahead to find a place where the group could stay, which was a practical necessity for a large traveling party in that era. This moment sets up what happens next in Luke's account, where the village refuses to welcome Jesus because he's heading to Jerusalem (a place Samaritans viewed with suspicion). The verse itself shows Jesus doing something very ordinary and human, needing food and shelter like anyone else on a journey.
