“He said to her, “Daughter, cheer up. Your faith has made you well. Go in peace.””
What does Luke 8:48 mean?
Jesus speaks these words to a woman who had spent twelve years bleeding and had exhausted her resources on doctors, yet only got worse. In desperation, she touched the edge of his cloak in a crowd, believing he could heal her, and was immediately restored. When Jesus asks who touched him, she comes forward trembling, probably afraid of judgment. Instead, he calls her "daughter," offering her dignity and belonging at a moment when she likely felt shame and isolation. His words affirm that her trust in him—not the physical touch itself—is what brought her healing, and he sends her off with a blessing of peace that was as much spiritual as physical.
