What does Luke 8:23 mean?
Jesus had just taught a huge crowd, and now he's crossing the lake with his disciples when exhaustion finally catches up with him, so completely that a violent storm doesn't wake him. The disciples, meanwhile, are terrified as their boat fills with water, facing what feels like a life-or-death situation while Jesus sleeps peacefully nearby. This moment sets up one of the most powerful demonstrations of his power and his peace, but it first shows us the very human reality of what his followers are experiencing: fear, danger, and the feeling of being alone in their crisis.
