What does Luke 7:36 mean?
A Pharisee extends what seems like a simple dinner invitation to Jesus, and He accepts. This might sound ordinary, but in that culture, sharing a meal meant something significant—it was an act of hospitality and fellowship that signaled openness or respect. The fact that a religious leader would invite Jesus into his home tells us the invitation likely came from genuine curiosity, even if what follows (in the verses after) reveals the Pharisee's heart wasn't entirely open. For us, there's something beautiful here about Jesus showing up to the table, literally and figuratively, when invited—He meets people where they are, even in spaces of uncertainty or mixed motives.
