What does Luke 6:7 mean?
The religious leaders were essentially setting a trap, hoping Jesus would break the Sabbath laws by healing someone. In their interpretation, any work on the Sabbath was forbidden, and they believed healing counted as work. Rather than being genuinely curious about his power or compassionate toward the sick person, they were watching with hostile intent, looking for ammunition to use against him in their criticism. This moment reveals something important about how rules can become more important than people. Jesus saw a person in need, while the Pharisees saw only an opportunity to catch him doing something wrong. It's worth reflecting on whether we sometimes focus so much on being "right" that we miss chances to actually help someone in front of us.
