Luke 6:48

He is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep, and laid a foundation on the rock. When a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it was founded on the rock.

What does Luke 6:48 mean?

Jesus is describing someone who builds wisely by doing the hard, invisible work first. The man in this parable digs deep and lays his foundation on solid rock, which takes effort and foresight but means his house survives the storm. When trouble comes, as it always does, that foundation holds firm. The point isn't that a solid foundation prevents storms from arriving, but that it keeps the house standing when they do. Jesus is inviting us to think about what we're actually building our lives on, whether it's shallow and convenient or costly and true.
