What does Luke 5:7 mean?
When Jesus teaches from Simon's boat and then tells him to fish in deep water, Simon's obedience brings an overwhelming catch, so massive that one boat can't hold it all. He signals to James and John in the nearby boat to come help, and together they fill both vessels until the boats actually start to sink under the weight. This moment captures something beautiful about abundance that exceeds our expectations or capacity. Simon followed instructions that seemed unlikely to work, and the result was so generous it became almost a problem, a good problem, but still more than he could manage alone. That's why he needed to call for help. Sometimes when God works in our lives, the blessing isn't just nice, it's overwhelming, and that's when we discover we can't do it by ourselves. We need community, we need others, we need to recognize our own limits and reach out.
