Luke 4:34
“saying, “Ah! what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God!””
What does Luke 4:34 mean?
A demon-possessed man in the synagogue recognizes Jesus immediately for who he is, crying out in fear and distress. The demon knows that Jesus has the power to cast it out and destroy its hold over the person it inhabits, which is why it asks what Jesus wants with it. What's striking here is that the demon acknowledges Jesus' true identity and holiness even while opposing him, showing that evil recognizes good and knows it is threatened by it. This moment reminds us that spiritual reality is far more active than we usually think, and that Jesus' authority is complete and undeniable. Even the forces that oppose God must confess his power, whether they want to or not.
