What does Luke 4:29 mean?
The people of Nazareth were furious with Jesus after he claimed that God's favor extends to outsiders, not just to Israel. In their anger, they physically drove him from the synagogue and toward a cliff, intending to kill him by throwing him off it. This wasn't a calm debate but a violent mob response to words that threatened their sense of being God's exclusive people. What's striking is how quickly rejection can turn dangerous. Jesus had grown up in Nazareth, was known to them, and had just performed miracles in nearby towns, yet this familiarity didn't protect him—it may have even intensified their anger. The scene reminds us that speaking truth, especially truth that challenges what people believe they deserve, can provoke real hostility.
