What does Luke 4:24 mean?

Jesus is explaining why people in his own town of Nazareth aren't responding to him the way others are. He's pointing out a pattern that runs throughout history: we often dismiss people we've known since childhood, assuming we already understand who they are and what they're capable of. The people watching him grow up couldn't see past the carpenter's son they remembered, even though something had fundamentally changed. There's something painful in this observation, but also something liberating, because Jesus is saying their rejection isn't really about him or his message—it's about the limits of human familiarity and the difficulty we all have recognizing growth and transformation in people we think we know completely.
