What does Luke 3:26 mean?

This verse is part of Luke's genealogy tracing Jesus's family line back through history. It lists ancestors whose names appear nowhere else in Scripture, which tells us Luke was drawing from records beyond what other Gospel writers used. These generations represent real people in Jesus's ancestry, though we know little about them individually, and that's okay—their significance lies in being part of the unbroken chain connecting Jesus to David and ultimately to Abraham. The genealogy reminds us that Jesus entered human history through an actual family with a real past, making his incarnation tangible and his connection to God's ancient promises genuine.
