Luke 24:32

They said to one another, “Weren’t our hearts burning within us, while he spoke to us along the way, and while he opened the Scriptures to us?”

What does Luke 24:32 mean?

Two disciples were walking with the risen Jesus, though they didn't recognize him at first. As he explained how the Old Testament pointed to the Messiah and his suffering, something stirred deep within them, a warmth and aliveness they couldn't ignore. When they later realized who he'd been, they looked back and recognized that inner burning as the presence of God working in their hearts. That "burning" describes what happens when truth resonates with your whole being, when you suddenly understand something in a way that changes you. It's not just intellectual agreement, but a quickening of the spirit that makes you feel more alive. The disciples were experiencing Jesus himself, even before they knew it was him, and their hearts knew what their minds hadn't yet grasped.
