What does Luke 24:26 mean?
After his resurrection, Jesus asks his disciples this question to help them understand what the prophets had actually written about him. The point he's making is that suffering wasn't a detour from his purpose, but rather the necessary path toward it, like a doorway you have to walk through rather than around. This can be hard for us to sit with, especially when we're in pain ourselves. But Jesus is gently suggesting that his followers shouldn't have been shocked by his death, because the ancient scriptures had been pointing toward this all along. He's also inviting us to trust that there's meaning in hardship, even when we can't see it clearly in the moment.
