Luke 24:19
“He said to them, “What things?” They said to him, “The things concerning Jesus, the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;”
What does Luke 24:19 mean?
The disciples are explaining to the risen Jesus (though they don't recognize him yet) who he was and what had just happened to him. They're describing him as they understood him at that moment: a powerful teacher and miracle-worker, someone God clearly stood behind, and someone the whole community had witnessed. What makes this poignant is that they're summarizing his life in past tense, still grief-stricken and confused about his death. They haven't yet grasped the resurrection they're actually speaking to. It captures that raw, in-between moment when faith feels like it's ended, before understanding breaks open again.
