What does Luke 23:45 mean?

During Jesus's crucifixion, extraordinary things happened that signaled something sacred was ending and something new beginning. The darkness over the land spoke to the weight and cosmic significance of that moment, while the tearing of the temple veil, which had separated the inner holy sanctuary from the rest of the temple, represented the barrier between God and people being removed. Jewish readers would have understood this veil as one of the most sacred objects in their faith, so its tearing was shocking, suggesting that access to God's presence was no longer restricted to priests in a hidden chamber. For those following Jesus, these signs pointed to His death opening a direct path to God for all people, not just a chosen few.
