Luke 22:35
“He said to them, “When I sent you out without purse, and wallet, and shoes, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.””
What does Luke 22:35 mean?
Jesus is reminding his disciples of an earlier mission he sent them on (described in Luke 10) when he told them to travel light, carrying no money, extra supplies, or fancy sandals. He's pointing out that despite those severe limitations, they lacked nothing—God provided for them along the way. This question seems gentle but purposeful, inviting them to remember God's faithfulness before the hard events about to unfold. It's both an affirmation of their past experience and a subtle preparation for the difficult season ahead, suggesting that even when circumstances seem to strip them of security and resources, God can be trusted.
