Luke 21:8

He said, “Watch out that you don’t get led astray, for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he ,’ and, ‘The time is at hand.’ Therefore don’t follow them.

What does Luke 21:8 mean?

Jesus is warning his followers to stay alert and grounded in their faith rather than chasing after false messengers and false urgency. Throughout history, people have claimed to be the Messiah or to have insider knowledge about when the end times would come, and Jesus knew his disciples would encounter many such claims. His instruction is remarkably practical: don't be swayed by charismatic figures who demand your allegiance or by those who insist that "now is the moment" and you must act immediately. This applies far beyond ancient times. We all encounter voices claiming special authority over us, whether they promise spiritual secrets, guaranteed certainties, or pressure us to abandon our own judgment and follow blindly. Jesus invites us instead toward discernment and patience. Wisdom rarely shouts that it's urgent and that you'll miss out if you don't decide right now.
