What does Luke 21:11 mean?

Jesus is describing a broken world where suffering will be real and widespread—earthquakes, hunger, disease, and frightening cosmic events scattered across the earth. These aren't meant to be a detailed prediction of when things will happen, but rather a honest acknowledgment that before His return, creation itself groans under the weight of sin and brokenness. What matters most in this passage is what comes just before and after it: Jesus tells His followers not to be terrified by these things, and not to run after false saviors claiming they have all the answers. Instead, He calls people to remain faithful and trust Him even when the world feels chaotic and unstable. If you're living through genuinely hard times right now, this verse doesn't minimize your pain—it validates that yes, suffering is real—but it also points to the kind of peace that doesn't depend on circumstances staying calm.
