What does Luke 20:46 mean?

Jesus is warning his followers to watch out for spiritual leaders who are more concerned with looking impressive and getting attention than with actually serving God. The scribes he's describing loved the status symbols of their role, the public recognition, and the honor that came with their position. When we see someone in any kind of leadership who seems more interested in applause than in helping people, or in titles than in service, Jesus is inviting us to think carefully about whether they're trustworthy guides. The deeper lesson is that genuine faith shows itself through humility and real care for others, not through how much respect we can gather for ourselves.
