What does Luke 2:36 mean?
Anna was a faithful Jewish woman who had spent decades in prayer and devotion at the temple in Jerusalem. She was widowed young, after only seven years of marriage, and rather than retreating from life, she committed herself to worship and fasting, becoming known as a prophetess. When Mary and Joseph brought the infant Jesus to the temple, Anna recognized him as the long-awaited Messiah and gave thanks to God, then told everyone who was waiting for Israel's redemption about this child. Her story reminds us that faithfulness during seasons of loss and loneliness doesn't go unnoticed, and that God can use our extended seasons of waiting and prayer in ways we might never expect.
