What does Luke 19:38 mean?
The crowds greeting Jesus as he entered Jerusalem were echoing words from Psalm 118, a psalm about God's deliverance and triumph. By calling him "the King" and invoking God's name and blessing, they were recognizing him as God's chosen one, the one Israel had been waiting for. Their cry for "peace in heaven and glory in the highest" expresses a deep longing for God's kingdom to be fully established, where heaven's peace and God's glory would transform everything. It's a moment of hope and celebration, even though most didn't yet understand what kind of king Jesus would be or what his coming would truly mean.
