What does Luke 12:25 mean?

Jesus uses a bit of gentle humor here to make a serious point: worrying about things doesn't actually fix them or change our circumstances. A cubit is roughly 18 inches, so he's asking something like, "Can anxiety make you taller?" The answer is obviously no. What he's driving at is that anxiety is utterly powerless to solve our real problems, yet we pour so much energy into it anyway. He's inviting us to notice this disconnect, especially when we're stressed about basic needs like food or clothing. If worry can't even do something simple like change our physical stature, why do we trust it to handle the bigger things we're afraid of?
