What does Luke 12:23 mean?

Jesus spoke these words to people worried sick about having enough to eat and wear, and his point was simple: don't let survival concerns consume your whole heart. There's something deeper to being alive than just feeding and clothing your physical body—your spirit, your relationships, your purpose all matter too. He wasn't saying food and clothing don't matter (they do), but rather that anxiously obsessing over them can trap you in a smaller version of life than you're meant to live. When worry about the basics crowds out everything else, you miss joy, connection, and meaning. For many of us today, this speaks to how easily we can get caught on the hamster wheel of earning, buying, and maintaining, forgetting that real life happens in the spaces between.
