Luke 11:30
“For even as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will also the Son of Man be to this generation.”
What does Luke 11:30 mean?
Jesus is drawing a parallel between Jonah's experience and his own coming death and resurrection. Just as Jonah was swallowed by a great fish and emerged alive after three days to warn the Ninevites, Jesus himself would go through death and rise again as a sign to his generation. The comparison points to something extraordinary and undeniable, something that demands attention and calls people to turn their lives around. In other words, the resurrection itself would be the ultimate proof of who Jesus was, though like Jonah's message to Nineveh, not everyone would believe or respond to it.
