What does Luke 1:61 mean?

Elizabeth's neighbors and relatives were shocked when she insisted on naming her newborn son John, because no one in their family had ever carried that name before. In that culture, babies were typically named after a father, grandfather, or other respected ancestor, so choosing an entirely new name was unusual and even a bit scandalous. What made this moment so remarkable was that Elizabeth was following her husband Zechariah's wishes (he had been struck mute and wrote the name down), and more importantly, she was obedient to God's plan, even though it meant going against what everyone around her expected. This small act of faithfulness turned out to be the naming of John the Baptist, whose life would prepare the way for Jesus.
