What does Luke 1:17 mean?
This passage describes John the Baptist's role in God's plan, using language that connects him to the prophet Elijah, who was known for boldly calling people back to God. John would carry that same Spirit-empowered conviction, working to heal broken relationships (turning fathers' hearts toward children) and calling resistant people toward genuine wisdom and righteousness. The deeper mission here is preparation: John isn't the main event, but rather someone clearing the way, softening hearts and awakening people to their need for God.
