Leviticus 9:15
“He presented the people’s offering, and took the goat of the sin offering which was for the people, and killed it, and offered it for sin, like the first.”
What does Leviticus 9:15 mean?
Aaron is completing the sacrificial rituals on behalf of the whole community, following the pattern God established. The sin offering here represents the people's need for forgiveness and restoration of their relationship with God, and by performing this sacrifice, Aaron (as the priest) is standing in that gap for them. This moment comes right after Aaron has offered sacrifices for himself and his own family, which was necessary before he could minister for others. The repetition of "like the first" shows he's being careful to follow God's instructions exactly, which mattered deeply in these ceremonies because they were meant to teach the people about sin, accountability, and God's provision for forgiveness. Even though we approach God differently now through Jesus, the principle remains: our need for cleansing from wrongdoing is real, and God has always made a way for that to happen.
