What does Leviticus 8:18 mean?

When Aaron and his sons placed their hands on the ram's head, they were identifying themselves with the animal about to be sacrificed. This gesture meant they were symbolically transferring their need for forgiveness and their desire to draw close to God onto the offering. The ram would then be burned completely on the altar, representing total surrender to God. For Aaron's family, it was a way of saying, "This offering represents us and our commitment to serve God faithfully in the priesthood."
