“which Yahweh commanded to be given them of the children of Israel, in the day that he anointed them. It is their portion forever throughout their generations.”
What does Leviticus 7:36 mean?
This verse describes part of God's instructions for maintaining the priesthood in ancient Israel. When Aaron and his sons were set apart as priests through anointing (a sacred ritual marking them for God's service), God also established that they would receive a portion of the sacrificial offerings brought by the people. This wasn't payment for their work, but rather God's way of saying the priests belonged to him and would be sustained by the community's worship.
