What does Leviticus 3:17 mean?

This command reflects the ancient Israelite understanding that fat and blood held special significance, belonging to God rather than to ordinary consumption. The instruction to avoid them in daily eating was meant to keep the people set apart and reminded them that some things in creation were sacred. While this specific rule applied to Israel under the old covenant, it teaches us something broader: there are ways to live that honor what God considers holy, and sometimes that means restraint even when something isn't explicitly forbidden. For many of us today, it's less about dietary rules and more about the principle of recognizing that not everything available to us is meant for us to take.
