“If it is any unclean animal, of which they do not offer as an offering to Yahweh, then he shall set the animal before the priest;”
What does Leviticus 27:11 mean?
When someone made a vow to give an animal to God's service but had chosen one that wasn't considered acceptable for sacrifice (like a donkey or camel), they couldn't just go through with it anyway. Instead, they'd bring the animal to the priest, who would assess its value and let the person either pay that amount in silver or substitute a clean animal instead. This kept the system fair and prevented people from offloading unwanted livestock under the guise of religious devotion. The underlying principle is that honest offerings to God require honest choices, not last-minute workarounds or getting rid of what we don't want by calling it a gift.
