“I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.”
What does Leviticus 25:38 mean?
God is reminding the Israelites of the foundation of their entire relationship with him, right in the middle of practical laws about land and debt. He's saying: I freed you from slavery, I gave you a home, and I'm committed to being in relationship with you. This isn't a distant God making demands from afar, but one who has already proven his faithfulness through real, concrete acts in their history.
