Leviticus 25:34
“But the field of the suburbs of their cities may not be sold; for it is their perpetual possession.”
What does Leviticus 25:34 mean?
The Levites (the priestly tribe) were given cities to live in throughout Israel, but they weren't given farmland like other tribes. This verse protects the open grazing land immediately surrounding those cities so the Levites could always feed their animals and support themselves. By marking this land as permanently theirs, God ensured the Levites wouldn't lose their economic foundation if circumstances changed or they fell on hard times. It's a picture of God securing a basic safety net for those set apart for religious work.
