Leviticus 2:12
“As an offering of first fruits you shall offer them to Yahweh: but they shall not rise up for a pleasant aroma on the altar.”
What does Leviticus 2:12 mean?
When people brought their first fruits or grain offerings to God, they were expressing gratitude and trust that he would provide for their needs. This verse says those firstfruit offerings could be presented to God, but they had a specific restriction: they weren't to be burned on the altar as a fragrant offering like other sacrifices were. The point wasn't to exclude firstfruits from worship, but to keep them separate for the priests to eat instead. God was ensuring that the people who served in the temple had food to sustain them. So your generosity toward God also fed those devoted to serving him. It's a reminder that offering to God and caring for others aren't separate things, but woven together in how faith actually works.
