What does Leviticus 16:26 mean?
On the Day of Atonement, the priest would send a goat into the wilderness carrying the people's sins symbolically, then had to wash thoroughly before returning to community life. This ritual washing wasn't just practical hygiene, though the priest certainly needed it after handling the animal, it represented becoming clean and restored after handling something spiritually heavy. The requirement to bathe and change clothes before re-entering the camp teaches something beautiful: even after we've done the hard work of confession, forgiveness, or letting go of burdens, we need a real transition back into normal life. We can't carry the weight of sin or guilt back with us into our relationships and daily routines.
