What does Leviticus 15:31 mean?
This instruction comes near the end of Leviticus's rules about ritual purity, and it reflects how seriously ancient Israel took maintaining a sacred space. The laws about bodily discharges and cleanliness weren't primarily about hygiene or shame, but about recognizing that certain conditions temporarily separated people from communal worship until they could be restored. The warning about dying in uncleanness isn't a threat of punishment so much as a reminder that staying disconnected from God's presence and community was spiritually dangerous. When people understood themselves as defiled, the path back was clear: follow the prescribed cleansing rituals, and restoration was possible.
