What does Leviticus 11:39 mean?
When an animal you were normally allowed to eat dies of natural causes rather than being properly slaughtered, anyone who touches its body becomes ceremonially unclean and needs to wait until evening before participating in community life or worship. This rule was part of Israel's holiness code, a system designed to create daily awareness of the boundary between life and death, the pure and the impure. The underlying principle wasn't about hygiene (though avoiding diseased carcasses was practical), but about treating death with respect and maintaining a structured spiritual rhythm.
