What does Lamentations 1:9 mean?
The opening line uses "filthiness in her skirts" as a picture of how Jerusalem became spiritually and morally corrupt, with that corruption visible to everyone around her. The phrase "didn't remember her latter end" means the city forgot to think about consequences, living as though her choices wouldn't catch up with her. When those consequences arrived, she fell suddenly and completely, left with no one to comfort her because the very people she needed had turned away. The last line captures the heartbreak of the moment: the speaker (often understood as the city itself or those who witnessed her fall) is crying out to God, acknowledging both the depth of the suffering and how the enemy seems victorious.
