What does Judges 7:18 mean?
Gideon is addressing his small army before they attack the Midianite camp, and he's giving them their battle strategy: when he sounds his trumpet, everyone else will sound theirs too and shout together. The goal isn't really about military tactics in the usual sense, but about creating confusion and noise that makes the enemy camp think they're being surrounded by a much larger force. What makes this moment remarkable is that Gideon has already whittled his army down to just 300 men (from thousands) because God told him to, so they're wildly outnumbered.
