Judges 7:12
“The Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand which is on the seashore for multitude.”
What does Judges 7:12 mean?
Gideon is facing what looks like an impossible odds situation, and this verse captures just how overwhelming the enemy force appears. The comparison to locusts and sand is meant to show an almost incomprehensibly large army, not give us an exact headcount. This moment of describing the vast enemy camp comes right before God tells Gideon to reduce his own army dramatically, which makes the contrast even sharper: human logic says you need numbers to win, but God is about to show that trust matters more than military advantage.
