What does Judges 6:7 mean?
The people of Israel had been oppressed and harassed by the Midianites for seven years, watching their crops destroyed and their livestock stolen. Their suffering finally drove them to cry out to God, which marks the beginning of their deliverance through a judge named Gideon. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we've exhausted our own resources and have nowhere left to turn, and that desperate place can actually become holy ground where we finally reach toward God. This verse reminds us that our cries matter, and that God hears us in our distress, even when we've been slow to call out to him.
