Judges 6:25
“That same night, Yahweh said to him, “Take your father’s bull, even the second bull seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is by it.”
What does Judges 6:25 mean?
God was calling Gideon to do something that would have felt impossibly dangerous: destroy his own family's religious altar to Baal, the false god their community worshiped. This wasn't a private spiritual choice, but a public act of defiance that would risk his reputation and safety in his own household and village. By asking Gideon to use his father's best bull and tear down what his family had built and maintained, God was asking him to put obedience to the true God above family loyalty and social acceptance. This was God's way of testing whether Gideon would truly trust him, even when it meant standing alone against the beliefs of everyone around him.
