Judges 4:18
“Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, “Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; don’t be afraid.” He came in to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.”
What does Judges 4:18 mean?
Sisera, the defeated enemy general, is exhausted and fleeing for his life. When Jael offers him shelter and safety, he gratefully accepts, trusting her hospitality. She covers him with a blanket as he collapses into sleep, and her kindness seems genuine in this moment. What makes this scene powerful is that Jael is about to become an unlikely hero, acting when the male leaders around her hesitate, and her seemingly simple act of hospitality will change the course of Israel's struggle for freedom. This passage reminds us that courage and faithfulness sometimes show up in ordinary moments when ordinary people step forward.
