Judges 3:8
“Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel served Cushan Rishathaim eight years.”
What does Judges 3:8 mean?
After the people of Israel turned away from God to worship idols, they faced real consequences. God allowed a foreign king from Mesopotamia to conquer and rule over them, forcing them into eight years of servitude. This wasn't punishment born from cruelty, but rather the natural result of abandoning the relationship with God that had sustained and protected them. The passage shows that God takes our choices seriously, and when we drift from what's true and good, we often find ourselves trapped in difficult circumstances that only God can ultimately free us from.
